YouTube’s Top 10 Music Videos of All Time
In the earlier post “Music: Saturating YouTube’s Top 100” it was noted that music videos take up a dominant spot on YouTube’s All Time list. Digging a little deeper you can see what the numbers are for the Top Ten music videos.
The majority of these videos were added in 2007 but there are videos on the raise from 2008 (check the 2nd, 3rd and 4th pages of YouTube’s All Time). Clinching a spot at the top of the charts has its advantages. If someone is curious about the most viewed video of all times Avril Lavigne definitely gets some traffic from visitors that want to see what all the fuss is about.
This new kind of chart acts differently than traditonal rating systems. Videos don’t lose their status over time like a fad. So, unlike radio charts it’s not subject to a short life span of a couple weeks or a month. Once on top the truly popular stick around shifting ever so slightly, at least for now.
Also, The longer a video takes to reach YouTube the lower its chances of making the all time viewed list are because the hype surrounding the song or artist dies away. Radio stations kill listener’s enthousiasm when they play newly released tunes everytime they switch DJ’s. YouTube puts them up on a pedastal.
Cheers!
